"Vaporising" refers to the evaporation of a non-metallic oxide layer. Vaporising acts as a separating layer and reduces the formation of cold welds. Cold welds involve chips of material that weld onto the edge of the screw tap and damage the thread produced. The consequences of cold welds are torn and unclean thread edges. VAP improves the adhesion of lubricants to the tool surface.
