The fine thread means
- Lower rise for increased self-locking power compared to a bolt with a standard thread
- Higher torque
- Larger bolt diameter for increased reliability
DIN 961 has been withdrawn and replaced by ISO 8676. There is some similarity (Nominal size extended | Widths across flats for M10, M12, M14 and M22 changed).
