High-speed steels are a group of alloyed tool steels with up to 2.06% carbon content and containing up to 30% alloying elements such as tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, cobalt, nickel and titanium. HSS materials are characterised by high hardness, wear resistance and heat resistance up to 600 °C. HSS tools are less sensitive to shock and vibrations, which sometimes can quickly lead to breakage in the case of harder cutting materials.
