For optimum results:

Remove any non-organic waste, pointed or sharp-edged stones and weeds from the soil.

If necessary, dig out the turf to a depth of a few centimetres.

Be sure to completely dig out any underground runners from weeds. Some weeds are strong enough to push through the weed membrane.

Next, break up the soil and then smooth it over.

The weed membrane can now be laid as required.
